ANALYTICS & QUALITY

The path of a batch.

From synthesis to the shelf.

Every batch takes the same path: synthesis, purity determination, identity testing, documentation, storage. At the end there is a data set — a batch number, a chromatogram, a measured molecular mass. And what they do not say. We only write down what can be supported by a document.

Synthesis

Solid-phase synthesis, purification, lyophilisation. Every production run receives its own batch number.

Purity

Reversed-phase analysis. The value in the batch documentation is the area share of the main peak in the chromatogram.

Identity

Mass spectrometry. Measured molecular mass against the mass expected from the molecular formula.

Documentation

On request by email.

Storage

Lyophilised, dry, dark. Shipped without a cold chain, with a short transit time.

01 — SYNTHESIS

Where a batch comes from.

Manufacture, purification, filling.

The peptides are built up by solid-phase synthesis: amino acid by amino acid on a carrier resin, then cleaved off and purified by preparative chromatography. The material is then lyophilised and filled into individual vials as a dry, white to off-white powder and sealed. We do not manufacture ourselves. We source from manufacturers who supply complete analytical data with every production run, and we only accept batches for which these records exist. Every accepted batch is given a number that holds everything together from that point on: vial, label, batch documentation, delivery. We do not operate our own testing laboratory and do not carry out the analysis ourselves. It comes from the manufacturer or from contracted laboratories. We pass it on as we receive it — with method, date and origin, so that you can see where a value comes from.

02 — PURITY

Analysis.

What a purity value means — and what it does not.

Purity is determined by reversed-phase analysis with UV detection. The sample is separated on a C18 column according to hydrophobicity; the detector signal is typically recorded at 214 nm, where the peptide bond itself absorbs. What comes out is a chromatogram: one large main peak, with smaller secondary peaks beside it. The purity value in the batch documentation is the share of this main peak in the total area of all peaks. A value of 99% means: 99% of the detected area is attributable to one substance. Secondary peaks are usually relatives of the target sequence — truncated sequences, incompletely cleaved protecting groups, oxidation products. The actual value for a batch is stated on the product and in the batch documentation. What matters is the limit of the method: an analytical value says nothing about which substance the main peak is. It describes how uniform the material is. What the material actually is only becomes clear through the second test.

03 — IDENTITY

The measured mass.

Mass spectrometry for identity confirmation.

For identity, the mass is measured — by ESI-MS or MALDI-TOF. The molecule is ionised and separated in the mass spectrometer by mass-to-charge ratio. The molecular mass can be calculated from the spectrum. This measured value is set against the theoretical mass calculated from the molecular formula of the peptide. If the two agree within the accuracy of the method, the expected molecular mass is confirmed. What mass determination does not do: it does not separate variants with the same molecular formula. That is why it never stands alone. Only both tests together produce a statement. The analysis shows how uniform the material is. Mass spectrometry shows whether the mass matches the stated sequence. If either one is missing, the batch counts as undocumented for us.

Every batch has a number.

The batch number is on the label of the vial and accompanies the delivery. Chromatogram and mass spectrum are usually included in the document as figures. It is not linked on the product page and is not enclosed with the delivery. You can also request it before placing an order if you want to know the values of the batch currently available.

The records for every batch shipped remain archived.

05 — STORAGE & SHIPPING

Dry, dark, documented.

Storage, transport, incoming goods.

Lyophilised peptide powder is comparatively robust when stored dry and cool. The critical factors are moisture, light and repeated temperature changes. The vials are therefore stored dry, dark and cool here until they are shipped; the storage conditions recommended for the batch are stated in the batch documentation. Over the shipping period, lyophilisates are stable at ambient temperature. We therefore ship without a cold chain and keep transit times short. We ship within Germany and to EU countries, not to non-EU countries. The outer packaging is neutral and allows no conclusions about the contents. After receipt, the material belongs promptly in dry, dark storage. A brief check on arrival is worthwhile: is the vial undamaged and the closure intact, does the designation match the order, does the batch number on the label match the one in the documentation. If anything differs, get in touch with a photo — we will clarify it via the batch number. All products are research chemicals and intended exclusively for laboratory and research purposes. Not for human or animal consumption, not for medical, therapeutic, diagnostic or cosmetic applications. We give no application or dosage recommendations and do not answer enquiries about them either. Sold exclusively to persons aged 18 or over for use in laboratory, educational and research settings.
