Copper-binding tripeptide Gly-His-Lys.

Research field

What this is.

GHK-Cu is the copper(II) complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine (Gly-His-Lys), first described from blood plasma. The peptide binds copper(II) in a 1:1 stoichiometry; the free tripeptide carries CAS number 49557-75-7 and a molar mass of 340.38 g/mol, while the complex supplied here carries CAS number 89030-95-5 and a molar mass of 401.9 g/mol. In preclinical research the substance is studied in the context of the extracellular matrix, in particular on questions relating to collagen biology, fibroblast models and copper transport. As a substance class, GHK-Cu belongs to the copper-binding tripeptides and is frequently used in laboratories as a reference and comparison substance for matrix-related assays. Supplied as a powder.

Storage

Store unopened at 2–8 °C, protected from light and dry. For longer storage, −20 °C. After opening, protect from moisture and light and avoid repeated temperature changes. Shipping takes place without a cold chain: over the shipping period the powder is stable at ambient temperature. Keep out of the reach of children and separate from food.

Handling in the lab

Handle under laboratory conditions in line with general laboratory hygiene: wear safety goggles, gloves and a lab coat, do not inhale dusts, and work separately from food. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening so that no condensate forms. The complex is sensitive to pH and light; reducing agents and competing chelating agents can release the copper from the bond, and the histidine is sensitive to oxidation. Keep the material protected from light. Document the batch number, receipt and whereabouts. Everything else follows the internal protocol of the respective laboratory — we make no specifications on this. Dispose of in accordance with local regulations for laboratory chemicals.

Common questions

GHK-Cu

GHK-Cu is the copper(II) complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine. Peptide and copper are present in a 1:1 ratio. Molecular formula C14H22CuN6O4, molar mass 401.9 g/mol, CAS 89030-95-5. The free tripeptide without copper carries CAS number 49557-75-7 and a molar mass of 340.38 g/mol.

Exclusively for laboratory and research purposes. It is a research chemical, not a medicinal product, not a cosmetic and not a food. We give no application, dosage or preparation recommendations for humans or animals.

In preclinical research, GHK-Cu is the subject of studies on the extracellular matrix, on collagen biology and on copper transport, predominantly in cell and tissue models. We describe this field purely descriptively and derive no effect from it.

Unopened as a powder at 2–8 °C, protected from light and dry. For longer holding times, storage at −20 °C is customary. Avoid repeated temperature changes. Shipping takes place without a cold chain: over the shipping period the powder is stable at ambient temperature, and transit times are short.

Sold exclusively to persons aged 18 or over for use in laboratory, educational and research settings. By placing an order you confirm that you will use the substance solely for these purposes. Shipping is to Germany and EU countries, not to third countries.
