FRAGMENT

Amino acids 17 to 23 of Thymosin Beta-4. Studied in preclinical models of actin dynamics and cell migration.

Research field

What this is.

TB-500 is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Ac-LKKTETQ. It corresponds to amino acids 17 to 23 of the endogenous protein Thymosin Beta-4, which consists of 43 amino acids. Inside cells, Thymosin Beta-4 binds monomeric G-actin and thereby influences the pool of unpolymerised actin. According to the published state of knowledge, this binding rests on the interplay of several sections of the protein: the N-terminal helix, the LKKTET motif and the C-terminal region. The isolated heptapeptide contains only one of these sections and binds G-actin in vitro considerably more weakly than the full-length protein. No receptor target has been described for the fragment, and whether effects observed in model experiments trace back to an actin interaction remains open in the literature. The substance is studied in preclinical cell and tissue models of actin dynamics, cell migration and repair processes. No conclusions about an effect in humans can be drawn from this. TB-500 is not a medicinal product and is not intended for any application.

Storage

Store the lyophilisate dry, protected from light and tightly sealed at 2–8 °C, and at −20 °C for longer periods. Shipping takes place without a cold chain: the dry lyophilisate is stable at ambient temperature over the shipping period, and transit times are short. Place it in storage promptly after receipt.

Handling in the lab

The lyophilisate is hygroscopic: keep contact with humidity brief and reseal the vial tightly afterwards. Let it come to room temperature before opening so that no condensate forms, and avoid repeated temperature changes between storage and room temperature. Otherwise the usual laboratory conditions apply: lab coat, safety goggles, gloves, clean work surface. Record the batch number and the date of receipt in the laboratory journal. Dispose of it in accordance with the requirements of your own institution.

Common questions

TB-500

A synthetically produced heptapeptide with the sequence Ac-LKKTETQ. It corresponds to amino acids 17 to 23 of the endogenous protein Thymosin Beta-4 and carries an acetyl group at the N-terminus. Molecular formula C38H68N10O14, molar mass 889.02 g/mol.

Thymosin Beta-4 consists of 43 amino acids. The LKKTET motif from position 17 onwards lies in the actin-binding region and is one of several structural elements that act together there. TB-500 reproduces only this section and is therefore a different molecule from the complete protein, with different binding properties.

In preclinical cell and tissue models of actin dynamics, cell migration and repair processes. The published information does not go further than that. We make no statements about an effect in humans.

No. We publish no dosages and no instructions for use. Concentration and study design are determined by the laboratory carrying out the work.

The item is listed in the catalogue as in preparation and cannot currently be ordered. We do not name a date in advance.
